Parents, fans furious with puzzling decision that could make high school baseball far more dangerous

USA Baseball and the National Federation of State High School Associations announced rules allowing bat drop weights of -4, -5, and -6 in high school baseball beginning in 2028. A bat drop weight indicates the difference between a bat's length in inches and its weight in ounces; a -4 drop means a 34-inch bat would weigh 30 ounces. The change permits lighter bats than previously allowed under high school regulations. Parents and some baseball organizations have raised concerns about the decision.
