Indian state gives taxi and tuk-tuk drivers a year to learn local language

The Maharashtra government issued a directive requiring taxi and auto-rickshaw drivers to achieve proficiency in Marathi within one year or face licence suspension. The rule applies to drivers operating in the state. Driver associations protested the requirement prior to its announcement.
