Ratko Mladić, 'Butcher of Bosnia' convicted of genocide, dies at 84

Ratko Mladić, a Bosnian Serb general convicted of genocide and war crimes by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, died at age 84 in a prison hospital in The Hague while serving a life sentence. Mladić was arrested in 2011 after 16 years evading capture and was tried for crimes including the massacre at Srebrenica in 1995. The tribunal convicted him in 2022 of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes. He had appealed his conviction.
