Korean Chipmakers’ Cash Payout Plans May Drive Won Rally Further

South Korea's two largest chipmakers announced shareholder-return plans that may increase demand for the won if the companies raise funds in local currency markets. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have outlined cash payout programs to shareholders. If executed through won-denominated borrowing or asset sales, these transactions could put upward pressure on the currency. The won has gained against the dollar in recent weeks.
