The DEA Plans to Ban Opioid-Like Kratom Compound 7-OH

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration announced plans to temporarily schedule 7-hydroxymitragynine, a compound found in kratom, as a controlled substance. The action would place the substance in Schedule I, according to a DEA statement. The American Kratom Association and licensed kratom retailers have stated support for the scheduling of the isolated compound while opposing restrictions on whole kratom leaf and powder products.
