Artificial cell manages a few rounds of cell division
Thursday, July 2, 2026
Researchers at Stanford University created an artificial cell that completed several rounds of cell division. The synthetic cell required added materials including lipids, proteins, and nucleotides to function. Division stopped after a limited number of cycles due to depletion of these added components. The research was published in a peer-reviewed journal and represents progress in synthetic biology research.
