Sammy 'The Bull' Gravano recalls chilling mob request that helped clear John Gotti's path to power

Sammy Gravano, a former member of the Gambino crime family, said Angelo Ruggiero requested his involvement in planning the killing of Paul Castellano, the Gambino crime family boss, according to a report on Gravano's account. Gravano stated that Ruggiero framed the request as necessary for John Gotti to assume leadership of the organization. Castellano was killed in December 1985 in New York City. Gotti became boss of the Gambino crime family following Castellano's death.
