Small town buzzing over identity of its $1B Powerball winner: ‘Like a murder mystery’
Thursday, August 13, 2026
Jon Marshall, manager of the Hy-Vee Gas Fresh & Fast in Quincy, Illinois, said the store sold a ticket that won the $1.04 billion Powerball jackpot. Marshall told a reporter the search to identify the winner resembled "a murder mystery." Illinois lottery rules allow winners to claim prizes through trusts or legal entities, delaying public identification. The winning ticket was purchased at Marshall's store but the winner has not yet come forward to claim the prize.
