Burnham 'confident' early release of PC Harper's killers can be halted

Prime Minister Andy Burnham said the justice secretary will present a plan in September to prevent early releases of prisoners. The statement followed discussion of PC Andrew Harper's case, in which two individuals convicted in his death were released early under automatic release provisions. The justice secretary's plan will be presented to Parliament in September 2026.
