Apple could help you prove your iPhone photos aren’t deepfakes

Apple is developing an iOS feature to embed provenance metadata into iPhone photographs at the point of capture, according to code references found in iOS 27 beta 5. The system, referred to as "Apple Reference Image" in the beta code, would allow users to verify when and how a photograph was taken on an iPhone. 9to5Mac identified the feature in the beta release.
