Lake Mead, the Nation’s Largest Reservoir, Is Smaller Than Ever

Monday, August 10, 2026

Lake Mead's water level has reached its lowest point since the reservoir began filling in 1937, according to federal data. The reservoir supplies water to Nevada, Arizona, California, and Mexico, and provides hydroelectric power from the Hoover Dam. Further declines could reduce water allocations to these regions and decrease electricity generation at the dam.
