Ex-Obama, Biden diplomat blasts former boss’ border failures: 'They woke up too late'

Ken Salazar, U.S. Ambassador to Mexico under President Biden, said the Biden administration responded late to border crossing increases. Salazar told CNN that the delay created a political opening that benefited former President Trump during the 2024 campaign. Salazar served as U.S. Ambassador to Mexico from 2021 to 2023. Border crossing numbers increased significantly in 2021 and 2022 before declining in 2023 and 2024.
