Europe’s Top Steelmakers Warn Against Weakening Carbon Market

Europe's largest steelmakers, including Salzgitter AG and SSAB AB, have called on policymakers to maintain the EU's emissions trading system and to support measures that strengthen the carbon border adjustment mechanism. The steelmakers indicated their position in communications to EU officials regarding carbon policy. The carbon border levy is designed to apply tariffs on imports of carbon-intensive goods based on their embedded emissions.
