People in 50s urged to complete bowel cancer screening
Saturday, July 11, 2026
Health officials reported that 54.2% of people aged 54 completed bowel cancer screening kits sent to their homes in the most recent screening round. Officials attributed the uptake rate to low awareness of the free testing program. The screening uses at-home faecal immunochemical tests (FIT) to detect early signs of bowel cancer, with follow-up colonoscopy recommended for positive results.
