The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that state laws allowing ballots to arrive after Election Day are legal. The decision addressed whether states have the authority to set their own deadlines for mail-in ballot receipt. Eighteen states had laws permitting ballots to be counted if they arrived after Election Day, provided they were postmarked by Election Day or met other specified criteria.
