AI backlash reaches major university with bold ban on laptops and phones for law students

The University of Chicago will prohibit first-year law students from using laptops, tablets, and phones in classrooms beginning fall 2026. The policy applies to the first year of law school only. The university stated the restriction aims to reduce dependence on artificial intelligence tools during coursework.
