Flores Hobbits' eating habits offer clues about their evolutionary past
Thursday, July 9, 2026
Scientists studying Homo floresiensis analyzed evidence about the species' diet and hunting methods to assess theories about its evolutionary origins. The research examined whether the extinct hominin used fire and hunted large prey, factors that could indicate its relationship to other human species. Homo floresiensis, which lived on the Indonesian island of Flores, stood approximately 3.5 feet tall and had a brain about one-third the size of modern humans.
