BOE Sees Case for Another Rate Hike If Iran War Doesn't End
Thursday, November 5, 2026
Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey said on Thursday that a second interest rate increase is possible if Middle East conflict continues. Bailey stated, "Absent a resolution of the conflict in the Middle East, and I think I put this in my commentary in the minutes, I could see the case for a further 25 basis points." He declined to commit to a limit on future rate hikes, saying "I'm not going to sign up to the two-and-done point" at a London news conference following the Bank's decision to raise rates.
