NYT demands Brave shut down its paywall blocker and end deals with AI firms
Tuesday, November 3, 2026
The New York Times filed a lawsuit against Brave Software, alleging the browser company illegally copies Times articles and distributes them through its AI chatbot and news aggregation features without permission or payment. The Times characterizes Brave as a "supplier, dealer, and distributor" of its content. Brave's business model includes licensing agreements with AI companies and operates a paywall-blocking feature that allows users to access paywalled articles. The lawsuit seeks damages and an injunction to stop the alleged unauthorized use of Times content.
