Monday, November 2, 2026
OpenAI announced on Monday a pilot program called "Grid Protectors Program" at a data center planned for Effingham County, Georgia. Under the program, OpenAI says it will reduce power consumption by up to 1,000 megawatts during extreme weather or emergencies, which the company stated is equivalent to powering air conditioners in approximately 700,000 homes. The program is designed to make power available to the local grid during peak demand periods.
