Taiwan Says China Sought to Diminish Its Status With Emailed APEC Invitation

Taiwan's government said China violated protocol by sending an emailed invitation to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum instead of following standard diplomatic channels. The invitation was addressed to Taiwan's envoy rather than directly to President Lai Ching-te, according to Taiwan's Foreign Ministry. Taiwan said the method and recipient were inconsistent with how invitations to previous APEC meetings had been delivered.
