IMO Chief Says Strait of Hormuz Remains Unsafe
Sunday, November 1, 2026
Arsenio Dominguez, secretary-general of the International Maritime Organization, said the Strait of Hormuz remains unsafe for commercial shipping due to attacks, mines, and other hazards. Dominguez told Bloomberg that vessel traffic in the strait has dropped sharply below pre-conflict levels. He stated the disruption is raising global fuel and shipping costs while forcing the industry to develop alternative routes and strengthen supply-chain resilience.
