Alaska's governor orders investigation after NYT report on alleged Dem-linked Senate election scheme

Thursday, October 29, 2026

Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy, a Republican, ordered an investigation after the New York Times reported that Democrats recruited a candidate named Dan Sullivan to run as an independent in the state's U.S. Senate race, according to BBC and Fox News. The report alleged the second candidate with the same name as Republican incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan was intended to confuse voters. As of the time of the New York Times report, the Alaska Division of Elections reported approximately 58,000 early ballots had been cast. Democratic Senate candidate Mary Peltola called the New York Times report a "distraction."
