A new kind of robot swims the seas and soars the skies

Roboticists built lightweight machines inspired by diving birds that can transition between water and air. The design uses principles observed in how diving birds move between the two environments. Researchers said the robots may eventually be used to monitor and sample coastal ocean areas.
