Rome’s Mayor Rules Out ‘Venice-Like’ Entrance Fee for Tourists
Wednesday, October 28, 2026
Rome's Mayor Roberto Gualtieri said the city will pursue restrictions on short-term rentals to preserve its historic center instead of implementing an entrance fee for tourists. Gualtieri's statement follows Venice's introduction of a day-pass fee for visitors to its city center. Rome's city center dates to at least 3,000 years ago.
