Monday, October 26, 2026
A federal judge ruled that the Trump Department of Justice unlawfully fired Maurene Comey, a trial lawyer in the U.S. attorney's office in Manhattan who prosecuted cases including those of Jeffrey Epstein and Sean Combs. Comey is the daughter of James Comey, former FBI director. Fox News reported the judge found the dismissal violated the Civil Service Reform Act and ordered backpay, while NPR reported the ruling has added to concerns about politically motivated firings at the DOJ. According to CNBC, the judge ordered Comey's retroactive reinstatement to her position as an assistant United States attorney.
