European lawmakers voted against a "chat control" bill that would have required technology companies to scan private messages, emails, and social media communications for child abuse material. The European Parliament rejected the measure in a vote. Despite the parliamentary vote, technology companies indicated they would continue scanning user communications for illegal content.
