Manhattan building developer says collapse fears were overblown, calls buckling columns 'localized situation'

MetroLoft founder Nathan Berman said the structural damage to a Manhattan high-rise was limited to a 20-by-20-foot section of the building. Berman characterized the incident as a "freak accident." The building's columns in that area showed signs of buckling.
