Feds demand autonomous vehicle companies stop interfering with first responders

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a directive requiring autonomous vehicle companies to ensure their systems do not interfere with emergency responders at accident scenes. NHTSA stated that emergency situations are not "edge cases" that manufacturers can overlook in vehicle design. The directive follows reports of autonomous vehicles failing to yield to or move around emergency vehicles and personnel during active response operations.
