The FTC Settlement With John Deere Is a Huge Win for the Right-to-Repair Movement
Wednesday, July 8, 2026
The Federal Trade Commission announced a settlement with John Deere requiring the company to provide farmers and independent repair shops access to diagnostic tools, repair manuals, and software previously restricted to authorized dealers. The settlement followed years of advocacy from farming groups and right-to-repair organizations. Terms include making repair documentation available and allowing repairs without voiding equipment warranties. John Deere agreed to the terms without admitting wrongdoing.
