NHL team's rough offseason gets worse as franchise legend leaves to coach for arch-rival

Daniel Alfredsson left his position on the Ottawa Senators coaching staff to join the Toronto Maple Leafs as associate head coach. Alfredsson, a Hall of Famer who spent 17 seasons with the Senators, signed with Toronto on January 15, 2026. The move reunites Alfredsson with Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube, with whom he previously worked.
