Strait of Hormuz threat level raised to 'severe' after Iran attacks tankers using U.S. Navy route

Iran's military announced it would target ships that do not use a northern shipping route it has designated in the Strait of Hormuz. The warning followed Iranian attacks on tankers using routes patrolled by the U.S. Navy. The Strait of Hormuz is a major global oil shipping corridor between Iran and Oman.
