Popular pantry product can't legally be called peanut butter — here's why

Skippy's natural peanut butter product must be labeled as "peanut butter spread" because it does not meet the FDA requirement that peanut butter contain at least 90 percent peanuts. The product contains added oils and other ingredients that reduce its peanut content below that threshold. Federal regulations define the minimum peanut percentage required for a product to be marketed as peanut butter.
