Tesla’s big electric truck faces an even bigger infrastructure challenge

Tesla's Semi truck, which the company says has a 500-mile range, began deliveries as the electric trucking industry faces limited charging infrastructure. The truck requires megawatt-scale charging stations, which remain sparse across major trucking routes. Fleet operators have cited charging availability as a limiting factor in adoption of electric heavy-duty vehicles. Tesla has announced plans to expand its Megacharger network, with locations in Texas and Nevada operational as of early 2026.
