Capital Goods Orders Surge as Business Boom Strengthens

New orders for nondefense capital goods excluding aircraft increased 1.6 percent in August, according to data released by the Commerce Department. Earlier month figures were revised higher. The index is used by economists to gauge business investment spending plans across the U.S. economy.
