Never smoked a cigarette? You could still be at higher risk for lung cancer

A study of 3.3 million people found that never-smokers carrying the rare EGFR T790M gene variant had 62 times the odds of developing lung cancer compared to those without the variant. Researchers identified the genetic association through analysis of existing health data. The findings suggest that genetic factors can significantly influence lung cancer risk independent of smoking history.
