Popular weight-loss drugs may play surprising role in cancer outcomes

Researchers are studying whether GLP-1 receptor agonist drugs, including semaglutide sold as Ozempic and Wegovy, may affect cancer outcomes through changes to immune function. The mechanism and scope of any such effect remain unclear, and large-scale clinical trials have not yet been conducted to test this relationship. Semaglutide is currently approved by the FDA for diabetes management and weight loss.
