SEBI Allows Portfolio Managers to Invest Overseas, Short Equity Options

The Securities and Exchange Board of India approved portfolio managers to invest client funds in overseas securities and permitted them to short equity options, according to SEBI's announcement. The regulator also expanded the scope of permitted derivatives trading for portfolio managers. These changes took effect following SEBI's regulatory update. Portfolio managers previously operated under more restrictive investment mandates.
