El-Sayed Compares Oklahoma Sharia Law Ban to Trail of Tears, Tulsa Race Massacre

Abdul El-Sayed, a Michigan Democrat running for U.S. Senate, compared Oklahoma's ban on Sharia law to the forced removal of Native Americans and the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre during a 2022 speech at a Council on American-Islamic Relations event, according to a resurfaced video. El-Sayed also referenced the Oklahoma City bombing in the same remarks. Oklahoma passed legislation in 2023 prohibiting state courts from considering Sharia law in judicial proceedings.
