The merger creates complications with career statistics: Teemu Selanne played for the original Jets but is now credited with service to the unified franchise, while Shane Doan, who played for the Phoenix Coyotes (the relocated original Jets organization), now appears in the same franchise record books. The NHL did not merge all historical records; players' individual career statistics remain tied to the teams they actually played for.
