Mortgage rates have just surpassed 7% for the first time in well over a year

Mortgage rates exceeded 7 percent on the date of publication, according to market data. The increase of more than one percentage point occurred during the period following the escalation of U.S.-Iran tensions. The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage had not exceeded 7 percent since 2023.
