Bernie Sanders proposes banning ‘superintelligence’ and putting violators in prison

Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Rep. Greg Casar of Texas introduced legislation titled the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act that would prohibit development of artificial superintelligence, which the bill defines as technology capable of causing human destruction or disempowerment, including government overthrow. The bill establishes criminal penalties of up to 20 years in prison for violations. The legislation has not yet been scheduled for a vote in either chamber of Congress.
