Small undersea volcanoes may unleash outsized tsunamis

Imaging conducted after the 2022 eruption of Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcano revealed new details about how the caldera collapsed. The eruption and subsequent collapse generated a tsunami that caused significant damage across the Pacific region. Researchers used the post-eruption data to study the relationship between underwater volcanic collapse and tsunami generation.
