Drug deaths in Scotland rise 11% as country struggles with worst rate in Europe

Scotland recorded 1,330 drug-related deaths in 2025, an 11% increase from the previous year, according to National Records of Scotland data. Over the past decade, Scotland has recorded more than 11,000 drug-related deaths. Scotland has the highest rate of drug-related deaths per capita in Europe.
