Ecuador Seeks US Help Fighting $30-Billion Cocaine Trade

President Daniel Noboa said in a September 21 interview with Bloomberg Television that Ecuador requests increased US assistance daily to combat cocaine trafficking he estimates at $30 billion annually. Noboa stated approximately 1,200 tons of cocaine transit Ecuador yearly, with about 80% headed to the US and Europe. He said Ecuador is pursuing major traffickers and needs support from the US and Europe but will retain control of all operations.
