Fury erupts over Mamdani parade invite as old Columbus insult resurfaces: ‘Are you kidding me?’

New York State Senator Zohran Mamdani received an invitation to march in the Columbus Day Parade. Mamdani posted a photograph in 2020 showing him making an obscene gesture at a Christopher Columbus statue. Italian American organizations and parade supporters objected to his participation based on the 2020 post. The parade invitation was extended despite the earlier social media post becoming public again.
