NRC is (sort of) getting rid of "as low as reasonably achievable" standard

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission proposed changes to its radiation safety standards. The current standard uses the phrase "as low as reasonably achievable," or ALARA. The NRC stated its issues with the standard are semantic rather than related to physical safety outcomes. The agency did not announce a timeline for implementing any changes.
