Murdaugh defense says detectives found male DNA under victim's nails but skipped key testing

Alex Murdaugh's defense team stated that detectives discovered male DNA under Maggie Murdaugh's fingernails but did not conduct additional testing on the sample. The defense raised the issue ahead of Murdaugh's retrial in connection with the deaths of his wife and son. Murdaugh was previously convicted in March 2023 of murdering Maggie and Paul Murdaugh and sentenced to life in prison, but the conviction was vacated in December 2024. The retrial is scheduled to proceed with the DNA evidence now at the center of the defense's claims.
