Heat waves are taking a big toll on chickens
Monday, July 6, 2026
Chicken mortality increased during France's June heat wave, according to industry reports. High temperatures reduce egg production and increase death rates among poultry, particularly in operations without climate control. France recorded temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit) in early June 2024. The French agriculture ministry did not immediately release official figures on poultry losses from the period.
