Saturday, September 19, 2026

The United States will transfer $2.5 million recovered from a Maryland property associated with former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh to compensate victims of his rule from 1994 to 2016. The funds came from asset forfeiture proceedings related to the property. Jammeh fled Gambia in 2017 after losing a presidential election and has faced allegations of human rights abuses during his time in office.
